Wilmington Sharks News Release
Florence, S.C. - A complete game on the mound from Mike Frank led the Wilmington Sharks (13-9, 29-20) to a 4-1 victory over the Florence RedWolves (11-12, 24-27) that clinched a spot for the Sharks in the 2012 Petitt Cup Playoffs.
RedWolves starter Patrick Andrews had trouble from the get-go, allowing a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases in the opening frame.
Though the Sharks didn't score, Andrews didn't recover quickly in the second and issued a walk, a hit by pitch and another walk to load the bases again with one out before Lloyd Enzor cleared the bases with a double to give Wilmington a 3-0 lead.
Matt Helms wasted no time helping the hosts bounce back as he led off the bottom of the second with a triple. He was brought home on a single to make it 3-1 at the end of two.
Aaron Preston's second hit of the night led off the top of the fifth, and he scored on a Connor Mitchell base knock three batters later.
Sharks starter Mike Frank earned player of the game honors, tossing his second complete game of the summer. He struck out ten batters and walked just one, allowing just one run on five hits in his nine innings of work.
Only one home game remains in the regular season, Thursday against Thomasville. The Sharks enjoy off days on Sunday and Tuesday this week, with a road game at Edenton on Monday and a suspended-game doubleheader in Morehead City on Wednesday.
