Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen kicked off the New Year with a 4-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers.
The Hitmen came out strong Sunday afternoon opening up the scoring with a goal from Riley Fiddler- Schultz on a tap in from Adam Kydd and Maxim Muranov. The Tigers were quick to respond with Oren Shtrom scoring just a minute later. In a scrum in front of the Calgary goal, Oasiz Weisblatt pushed one home to get the lead. Fiddler-Schultz scored his second of the game off of a breakaway feed from Anton Astashevich to finish first period tied at two.
Calgary secured the lone goal in the second period with a power play goal from Adam Kydd, his fourth of the season. Half way into the third period, 20 year-old Blake Allan netted his fourth of the season, putting Calgary up by two. Despite a push in the final minutes from Medicine Hat, the Hitmen held on to the two goal lead.
Netminder Brayden Peters hit 2000 career saves in today's match. Tyson Galloway was third star, Adam Kydd second star, and Fiddler-Schultz earned first star of the game with two goals on the day.
Calgary's road trip to Manitoba next week for games in Brandon (Jan. 7) and Winnipeg (Jan.8) has been postponed due to arena capacity restrictions in that province. Both games will be rescheduled at a later date. The Hitmen are idle until a two-game journey to Saskatchewan for stops in Regina (Jan. 11) and Moose Jaw (Jan. 12). Their next home game is Saturday, Jan. 15 when the Prince Albert Raiders visit the 'Dome for a 1:30 p.m. start.
