Hitmen Fall to Rebels in Overtime

October 8, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB- The Calgary Hitmen traveled to the Peavey Mart Centrium Saturday night to face the Red Deer Rebels for their first of eight meetings this season. A tight matchup resulted in a 3-2 overtime loss for Calgary.

Red Deer wasted no time opening up the scoring with Jhett Larson finding the back of the net just 45 second into the first period. The scoreboard remained dormant until Tyson Galloway fired one from the blue line with just over a minute left in the first to tie the game.

Red Deer was first to open up the period scoring once again with credit to Jace Isley putting one past Calgary netminder Brayden Peters. Both teams were unable to take advantage of power play opportunities as Red Deer held onto the one goal lead heading into the final frame. Jacob Wright scored his first as a Hitmen at 6:10 in the third to tie the game at two with helpers from Grayden Siepmann and Trey Patterson. Despite an eventful second half of the period, the game was forced to overtime with Calgary heading into extra minutes on the power play. A shorthanded opportunity for Jace Isley resulted in Riley Fiddler-Schultz taking a penalty giving Red Deer a penalty shot. Isley would find the back of the net for his second of the game, securing the win.

Calgary outshot Red Deer 37 -27, with Brayden Peters making 24 saves in his 100th career game. Jacob Wright earned second star of the game with two points (1G, 1A).

Calgary is back on the ice on Thanksgiving Monday to host the Brandon Wheat Kings. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome. The Hitmen will then play three straight on the road with stops in Saskatoon (Oct. 15), Prince Albert (Oct. 16) and Red Deer (Oct. 19).
