Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen picked up a point Wednesday night in a 3-2 shootout loss to the visiting Red Deer Rebels.

Red Deer was the first to strike with a marker from Matthew Gard. Ethan Moore netted his fourth of the season to tie the game up at the halfway mark of the first period. Kai Uchacz was able to find the back of the net once more for Red Deer to give them the lead headed into the second period. It was a scoreless second period, with Calgary coming up with two big penalty kills to keep it to a one goal game.

It was newcomer Brandon Gorzynski who was the hero, scoring his first WHL goal to tie the game just two minutes into the third period. Another successful kill for Calgary in the final three minutes of the game, kept Red Deer at bay, pushing the game to overtime. There were plenty of chances for Calgary in extra minutes including a power play opportunity, but it wasn't enough with the game needing to be decided in a shootout. Red Deer's Jhett Larson netted the only goal, giving Red Deer the victory and two points.

Ethan Buenaventura was stellar in net once again making 31 saves in the contest. Calgary now sits with a record of 11-15-3-1.

Calgary welcomes the Medicine Hat Tigers to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday, Dec. 15. Game time is 7:00 p.m. for a Nutrien Feeding the Future Chuck-A-Puck night in support of I Can for Kids. Calgary will then host Swift Current on Sunday, Dec. 17 in their final home game before the holiday break. Game time is 2:00 p.m. in another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential.
