Prince George Cougars News Release
EVERETT, WA - The Prince George Cougars faced a tough setback on Wednesday as their five-game road win streak came to an end with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Everett Silvertips. The game, held at the Angel of the Winds Arena, showcased intense action and key moments that ultimately favored the Silvertips.
The first period saw an early clash, with Matteo Danis and Kaden Hammell engaging in a spirited fight just 7:34 into the hockey game. However, the Cougars managed to take the lead at 14:30 when Keaton Dowhaniuk found Hudson Thornton, who netted his seventh goal of the season, giving the Cats a 1-0 advantage heading into the first intermission. Aiden Foster also dropped the mitts in the first period with Andrew Petruk.
The second period brought a quick response from the Silvertips, with Julius Miettinen scoring his tenth goal of the season just 29 seconds in on the power-play. Undeterred, the Cougars answered back at 1:39 with a spectacular goal from Terik Parascak, regaining a 2-1 lead. The Silvertips, however, turned the tide in the latter half of the period, capitalizing on a Cougars turnover as Lukas Kaplan scored his first WHL goal and Teague Patton netted his 11th of the season at 16:24. The Silvertips closed the second period with a 3-2 lead.
In the third period, despite earning a pair of power-plays, the Cougars were unable to find the back of the net. Everett showcased a solid defence, limiting the Cats to just six shots. The Silvertips extended their lead with a tip-in from Hayden Smith at 11:29 and sealed the victory with an empty-net goal from Teague Patton at 19:18, concluding the game with a 5-2 scoreline.
