Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen returned to the win column tonight at the Scotiabank Saddledome defeating Central Division leaders the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-3.
Calgary took an early lead in the first period going up 3-0. Fraser Leonard opened up the scoring for his second of the season. Brandon Gorzynski followed up less than five minutes later to increase the lead to two. Assists came from Ethan Moore and affiliate call up Gavin Schmidt who registered his first WHL point. Sean Tschigerl would make it a three-goal lead scoring on the power play off a one-time pass from Oliver Tulk. With the goal, Tschigerl moves into sole possession of 16th place on the clubs all-time point list, a spot he previously shared with defenceman Michael Stone at 181 points.
Cayden Linstrom would find the back of the net for Medicine Hat in the last 30 seconds of the period to put the visitors on the board. Andrew Basha and Tomas Mrsic would score twice more in the second period to tie the game. Calgary would have an answer though, with Carter Yakemchuk scoring his 14th of the season, collecting his own rebound of a 2-on-1 rush. This would prove to be the game winner as the third period went scoreless, ending a five-game losing streak for Calgary.
Sean Tschigerl (1g,1a) was first star in the contest, while forward import Maxim Muranov earned himself third star. Calgary now sits with a record of 12-15-3-1.
Calgary closes out their pre-holiday break schedule on Sunday, Dec. 17 when they welcome the Swift Current Broncos to the Scotiabank Saddledome for a matinee. Game time is 2:00 p.m. in another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential. Calgary will then enjoy a 10-day break before starting their B.C. Division road trip on Thursday, Dec. 28 in Prince George.
