Prince George Cougars News Release
WENATCHEE, WA - The Prince George Cougars clinched their 23rd victory of the season, triumphing over the Wenatchee Wild with a commanding 6-3 score at the Town Toyota Centre on Friday.
The dynamic duo of Riley Heidt and Zac Funk played a pivotal role in the victory, combining for an impressive nine points. Hunter Laing also shone with a double goal contribution, while goaltender Ty Young stood tall in the net, securing the win with 26 saves on 29 shots.
The Cats wasted no time in setting the tone, with Hunter Laing finding the back of the net just 69 seconds into the game for his fifth goal of the season. A critical moment came when Briley Wood of the Wild was awarded a penalty shot, only to be denied by the exceptional save from netminder Ty Young. Prince George capitalized on the subsequent power-play, with Terik Parascak notching his 25th goal of the season. The period concluded with a flourish as Zac Funk extended the lead to 3-0 with a precision shot at 19:53.
In the second period, Wenatchee fought back, narrowing the gap with goals from Kenta Isogai and Briley Wood on a power-play. However, the Cougars responded swiftly, as Hunter Laing netted his second of the game with an assist from Riley Heidt. The Cats headed into the final frame with a 4-2 lead.
The Wild initiated a comeback early in the third, reducing the deficit to one goal. Unfazed, the Cougars responded promptly, as Zac Funk, the league leader with 34 goals, scored his second of the game at 2:07. Maintaining control throughout the period, Funk sealed the victory with his fifth hat-trick of the season and third of the month, delivering the decisive blow at 18:49.
