Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Calgary, AB - A late rally falls short in the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-3 loss to the Calgary Hitmen Friday night.
Despite a brilliant start in net for Tigers goaltender Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB) the Hitmen would open the scoring at 8:07 as Fraser Leonard would get his 2nd of the season to make it 1-0 Calgary. At 11:38 Calgary would continue to add to their lead as Brandon Gorzynski would beat Zahara to make it 2-0 Hitmen. Calgary continued their offence as on a 5-on-3 Sean Tschigerl would one-time his 14th of the season to make 3-0 Hitmen.
Medicine Hat would break the seal in the first as Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) would make pay dirt at the side of the Calgary net for his 27th of the campaign to get the Tigers on the board 3-1 with just 26 seconds left in the first. Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) & Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) would support the Lindstrom tally with assists.
In the second period. The Tigers found their pace and at 6:04 after killing off a penalty, out of the box comes Oasiz Wiesblatt and he makes no mistake feeding Andrew Basha for a one goal game to make it 3-2. Josh Van Mulligen (Medicine Hat, AB) would add a secondary assist and continue his point streak to four games. Then on a Tiger power play, Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) one-times his 5th of the season past Ethan Buenaventura to tie the game at 3-3. Wiesblatt gets his third assist of the game along with Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) adding to his point total with his 11th power play assist of the season.
But the Tigers would go down 4-3 half way in the second at 11:43 as Carter Yakemchuk would tap home his 14th of the season after pick up his own rebound to give the Hitmen the lead heading to the 3rd period.
The third period would see the Tigers push with 14 third period shots but couldn't solve Buenaventura and fall 4-3 to the Hitmen despite outshooting Calgary 41-36.
Next-up, the final game before the holiday break Saturday night in Medicine Hat as the Tigers welcome the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
