HISTORY: SAINTS RECORD FRANCHISE RECORD THIRD STRAIGHT SHUTOUT, HAMBURGER TIES AMERICAN ASSOCIATION RECORD WITH 14TH COMPLETE GAME IN 10-0 WIN

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX - It was an historic evening at AirHogs Stadium on Wednesday night. The St. Paul Saints notched their franchise record third consecutive shutout, Mark Hamburger tied the American Association record for complete games in a career with his 14th and the Saints allowed the fewest base hits in a series in franchise history with just 10.

Hamburger was dominant from the beginning retiring the first six men he faced before giving up a leadoff single in the third to Beamer Weems. With two outs Alvaro Rondon singled to put runners at first and second, but Hamburger struck out Ryne Willard to end the inning. It would be the only inning Hamburger would allow two baserunners.

After a leadoff single to Ryan Wagner in the fourth, Hamburger would go on to retire 10 straight. Wagner would reach second in the inning, the last AirHogs player to do so.

Hamburger would walk his lone batter with one out in the seventh, allow a leadoff single in the eighth and a one out single in the ninth, but he would get a double play to end the game. Hamburger tossed a complete game five-hit shutout, walking one and striking out seven. The complete game is his 14th complete game in 46 career starts with the Saints matching Ben Moore's (Sioux Falls Canaries) league record. Moore, however threw his 14 complete games in 121 starts.

The Saints have not allowed a run in 24 consecutive innings, the nine innings on Wednesday, the two seven inning doubleheaders on Tuesday and the last inning on Sunday afternoon to Salina. The 10 hits allowed in the series tops their previous record of fewest allowed which were 14 from July 11-13, 2013 also against the AirHogs in Grand Prairie. That team went 30 consecutive innings without allowing a run, a franchise record.

The Saints allowed a total of 17 baserunners in the three games and only two reached as far as third base and the Saints didn't allow an extra base hit in the series. They used just one reliever, Connor Little, in the seventh inning of game two of the doubleheader.

Every Saints player collected a hit, seven of the nine had an RBI and seven of the nine scored a run. Anthony Gallas led the way going 3-5 with an RBI while Danny Oh, Breland Almadova and Brady Shoemaker all had two hits. Almadova and Nate Hanson each had two RBI while Oh scored three runs and Tanner Vavra scored twice.

The Saints scored eight of their 10 runs in the first inning all off of starter Scott Firth who entered the game fourth in the league in ERA at 1.65.

The Saints are 8-2 on their 13-game roadtrip and now head to CommunityAmerica Ballpark for a three game series against the Kansas City T-Bones. The series begins Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints are TBA and the T-Bones send RHP Scott Carroll (1-1, 3.94) to the mound. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
