Wichita Wingnuts News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts got a career-high eight strikeouts from Tyler Kane and homers from Brennen Salgado and Zac Fisher, as they salvaged the series finale with a 10-3 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones on Wednesday afternoon at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
After a scoreless first, the T-Bones (10-9) took a 1-0 lead in the second courtesy of a solo home run off the bat of Joe Jackson.
The Wingnuts (12-8) answered in the third when Brent Clevlen tied the game at 1-1 by muscling an RBI single into center against Kansas City starter Jeff Walters (1-1).
Wichita grabbed the lead for good in the fourth, taking advantage of a two-out error to tack on three unearned runs. Richard Prigatano laced a two-run double and Christian Stringer singled home Prigatano to give Wichita a 4-1 edge.
In the fifth, TJ Mittelstaedt led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an infield single from Martin Medina. Kansas City pulled a run back in the bottom half with another solo shot from Chantz Mack, leaving the Wingnuts with a 5-2 lead.
The Wichita offense continued its assault in the sixth, posting two more runs on a Stringer sacrifice fly and Clevlen RBI single that knocked Walters from the contest.
That would be all the support that Kane (3-1) would need, as the righty spared a tired bullpen with seven strong innings, allowing three runs while not issuing a walk.
Salgado and Fisher connected for a solo homer and two-run shot, respectively, as the Wingnuts added three more runs in the ninth for the final margin.
The Wingnuts will wrap up their road swing as they head to Grand Prairie for a three-game set with the Texas AirHogs. Alex Boshers (3-1, 3.90) is slated to get the start tomorrow in game one for Wichita. All the action will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM, and at americanassociationbaseball.tv.
