Evansville Otters News Release
Cole Hilt had two homeruns; the second, a three-run shot that cleared the outer wall to lead the Evansville Otters to a 11-7 win over the Washington Wild Things.
Washington got on the board first in the top of the first inning, plating a pair of runs. Evansville came right back in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double off the bat of Trask Munoz.
Washington took advantage of Otters' errors in the third to take a 5-2 lead. Trailing 6-3 in the fifth, Hilt hit his first homer, barely clearing the left-centerfield fence, to make it 6-5.
In the sixth, it was Evansville's turn to use errors to their advantage as Ryan McGraw dropped a flyball to open the floodgates. After a fielder's choice by Jason Mann, Ricky Clinton singled. Steve Martin walked to load the bases. Two batters later, Juan Downing singled home Mann and Clinton to make it 7-6 Otters. Hilt then hit a titanic blast to make it 10-6.
The two teams traded single runs to make the final 11-7. Brian Kroll (1-0) got the win in relief. Ryan Douglass (2-1) took the loss.
The Otters next play on Wednesday against Richmond. Andre Simpson (1-1) tries to become the team's all-time wins leader, attempting to break the tie he currently holds with Jeff Leystra at 15. The Roosters will counter with Tony Casoli (0-1).
