Richmond Roosters News Release
Chillicothe, Ohio â The Paints scored seven unanswered runs to beat the Roosters 8-3 in the middle game of the series at V.A. Memorial Stadium. Matt Schweitzer pitched seven innings, but allowed back-to-back solo homers in the seventh as Chillicothe tied the game at 3-3. Schweitzer has now gone at least seven innings in all of his starts, including one complete game. The Richmond bullpen struggled on Sunday as Fred Moses gave up four runs in the eighth and Mike White pitched to one batter, allowing a run scoring hit.
The Roosters scored first as Joe Rhomberg singled in the top of the second to score Tony Sanguinetti and give the Roosters a 1-0 lead. Richmond missed a chance to go up 2-0 on the next at-bat as Ty Herriott was thrown out at home attempting to score on a fly ball to right from Gerald Miller.
The Paints got four hits in the bottom of the third and plated a run to tie the game at 1-1. Doug Dreher singled with two outs to bring in Jose Rodriguez. Schweitzer got himself into trouble in the inning, but managed to strike out the last batter to leave runners stranded at first and third. He finished with a season best six strikeouts.
Kevin White provided the Roosters with the second and third runs, by hitting two solo bombs. One came in the fourth inning, and went over the center field wall to give Richmond a 2-1 lead. His second came in the sixth, to right field, increasing the lead to 3-1. White's third and fourth homers of the season are the most on the team.
K.C. Jones made a spot start for Chillicothe and pitched six innings while giving up three runs over seven hits, including the two home runs to White.
The final game of the series is scheduled for 6:05pm (Indiana time) in Chillicothe. Jared Howton (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will attempt to pitch for the Roosters, despite an injured leg and strep throat. Matt Blanton (0-1, 4.76 ERA) is slated to go for the Paints.
