Hill City Howlers News Release

THE HILLCATS: Yesterday Lynchburg lost in walk-off fashion with a 3-2 loss to the Blue Rocks at Wilmington...Tonight the Cats play the middle game of a three-game set at Frawley stadium and try and snap a seven-game losing streak at the home of the Rocks...

VS. WILMINGTON: The Hillcats went just 3-16 against.the Blue Rocks in 2007 and were 2-8 at Wilmington...Last year the Rocks had two 4-game sweeps and two 3-game sweeps of the Cats...Wilmington holds the all-time advantage in the series 156-111 and are 82-52 at home against Lynchburg...This season the Rocks are 7-3 against the Cats and 4-0 at Frawley Stadium...The last time these two teams met in Wilmington the Blue Rocks outscored Lynchburg 26-3 in a three-game sweep of the Cats...

DUELING LEFTIES: LHP Tony Watson and LHP Everett Teaford both pitched an outstanding game yesterday and both had nothing to show for it...Watson matched his season-high with six and 1/3 innings of work and allowed just one-earned run, while Teaford pitched a season-high eight innings and allowed just two earned runs...Neither factored in the decision of the Blue Rocks 3-2 win...

BACK AT HOME: In yesterdays game Jim Negrych, Eddie Prasch and Angel Gonzalez all played a position they primarily played throughout their careers but have rarely played this season...Negrych played second base for the first time this season, Prasch played third for just the fifth time this year and Gonzalez played shortstop for just the fifth time in 2008 in yesterday's game...

STRANGE BREW: Saturday night's was not exactly the most well played game (four errors, four caught stealing's, a pick-off, two wild pitches and four unearned runs), so it was appropriate that the Hillcats won the contest with two unearned runs on one play in which the Warthogs committed two errors...With pinch-runner James Barksdale on first, CF Alex Presley laid down a sacrifice bunt that he would eventually score the game-winning run on after two throwing errors by the Hogs...It was just the third time this season the Cats have won when trailing in the seventh inning or later and the four-run comeback matched their biggest of the season...

TROUBLE WITH SOUTHPAWS: The Hillcats are now just 3-13 this year against lefthanders while they are 30-34 against righthanded starters...

GOING STREAKING: 3B Jim Negrych went 1-for-3 last night with two RBI to extend his current hitting streak to 11 games...This streak now his longest of the season and over this stretch he has gone 18-for-43 (.419) with five doubles, a triple, ten runs scored and three RBI...Surprisingly Saturday night he collected his first RBI in 14 games...1B Kent Sakamoto had his 10-game hitting streak (his longest of the season) come to an end Friday night despite reaching base safely twice with a pair of walks and scoring a run for the seventh straight game...OF Eddie Prasch still has the longest hitting streak of the season for the Hillcats with a 13-game streak early this year...

WALK-OFF FASHION: After 74 games with just two games decided in walk-off fashion, three of the last six games for Lynchburg have been decided with a walk-off win...Before last Saturday's walk-off win for the Hiilcats, they had gone 170 games without a walk-off victory...

TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Paul Mildren makes his first appearance at the Advanced-A level tonight against Lynchburg...He was signed by the Florida Marlins in 2001 as an unsigned free agent...Mildren hasn't pitched at the High-A level since 2005 when he pitched with Jupiter in the Florida State League...With the Hammerheads that year he went 10-3 with a 3.08 ERA with 29 games (20 starts)...In 2006 he went 10-10 with a 4.14 ERA in 28 starts at the Double-A level with Carolina...In 2007 he struggled at the Triple-A level with Albuqurque going 5-7 with 5.86 ERA in 21 starts...He was claimed off waivers by the Royals and finished the season with Triple-A Omaha, going 1-1 with 9.69 ERA in three starts...This season he started the season with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and went 2-5 with a 7.36 ERA in 13 games (three starts)...He then went up to Triple-A Omaha and made four appearances for them with no decisions and an ERA of 2.70 ERA...
