Frederick Keys News Release

The Frederick Keys had some opportunities to score runs tonight, but couldn't get the hits when they needed to as they lost to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 4-2.

The Keys had right-hander Pedro Beato on the hill for his first start in Frederick since going on the disabled list. He danced in and out of trouble through the front three frames. The Pelicans finally got on the scoreboard against him in the fourth. With one man out, Tyler Flowers and Travis Jones hit back-to-back singles. A batter later, Jon Owings drove them both in with a double to give Myrtle Beach a 2-0 lead.

Beato settled down and set the side down in order in the fifth, but found himself in trouble once again in the sixth. Brandon Hicks led off the inning with a single. He came around to score when the next batter, Flowers, doubled to make it 3-0. Jones flew out to center, allowing Flowers to tag and get to third. He scored on a Concepcion Rodriguez sacrafice fly, giving the Pelicans a four-run lead.

Frederick couldn't get anything going against Pelicans' starter Jeff Lyman. He went five innings, and allowed no runs on one hit, walked two and struck out seven.

Myrtle Beach went to the bullpen in the sixth, bringing in right-hander Gonzalo Lopez. With one man out, Danny Figueroa walked. Todd Davison struck out swinging for the second out of the inning. Lopez then issued back-to-back-to-back walks, scoring Figueroa, and pulling the Keys to within three. With the bases loaded and two out, Ryan McCarthy flew out to left to end the threat.

Lopez stayed in the game to start the seventh. After striking out Billy Rowell, he hit Chris Amador with a pitch. Mike Pierce and Danny Figueroa worked back-to-back walks to load the bases again without getting a hit. Lopez was pulled for lefty Tyler Wilson. The next batter, Davison, hit an RBI-single to right to make it a two-run game.

With one man out and the bases still loaded, the Keys brought in Paul Winterling to pinch-hit for Zach Dillon. Wilson threw a wild pitch. Pierce was able to get home easily...except he didn't touch the plate. Wilson appealed to home, Pierce was called out for the second out of the inning. Winterling grounded to second to end the rally.

Frederick went down in order the next two innings, as they dropped their fourth straight game by a score of 4-2. Lyman got the win, improving to 2-2. Beato got the loss, evening his record to 3-3. Bryan Dumesnil pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save of the season.

The Keys will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow evening agianst the Pelicans. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. It's Guaranteed Win Tuesday at Harry Grove Stadium. If the Keys lose, each fan's ticket will be good for a future Monday through Thursday regular season home game. For ticket information contact our box office 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
