Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 16, 2011) - After two games on Monday that saw Winston-Salem beat Lynchburg by a combined 15 runs, the Hillcats responded in kind on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark with an 11-4 win against the Dash. A loss combined with a Kinston loss kept the Dash in first place in the Carolina League Southern Division by 1.5 games.

Much in the same way that Winston-Salem (29-22, 61-50) got on the board in the two games on Monday, Lynchburg (21-30, 51-70) got things going offensively early and often. Against Dash starter Joe Serafin in the first inning, Phil Gosselin bunted aboard with two outs. Joey Terdoslavich then walked before all runners advanced a base on a fielder's choice hit by Joe Leonard. No outs were recorded, and the bases were loaded. Christian Bethancourt singled home two runs, Geraldo Rodriguez singled in one, and Keenan Wiley capped the scoring with a RBI single to make it 4-0 Hillcats.

Lynchburg added two more in the second inning when Serafin loaded the bases with nobody out. Terdoslavich drove in Todd Cunningham with a sacrifice fly to center field. Joe Leonard then reached on a fielder's choice that scored Andrelton Simmons.

Winston-Salem got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Nick Ciolli walked with one out and moved to second when Kyle Colligan walked. Daniel Wagner's single loaded the bases before Tyler Saladino drove in two runs to cut the lead to 6-2.

The Cats responded in the fourth inning when Simmons and Gosselin singled with one out and later came around to score on Leonard's single.

Mike Blanke blasted his third home run of the season in the fourth. It was a solo shot, and his first at BB&T Ballpark this season. Colligan followed with a triple and later scored on Saladino's single.

In the sixth, the Hillcats broke open the game for good. Reliever J.R. Ballinger gave up a single to Simmons before Gosselin reached on an error by Juan Silverio. Terdoslavich then doubled the pair home before scoring himself on a single by replacement catcher Shawn McGill. McGill entered the game in the fourth inning when Bethancourt left because of an injury.

The Dash scored once in the ninth inning when Jared Mitchell led off with a walk and later scored on Silverio's single to cap the scoring.

Serafin (4-10) was hit with the loss after allowing eight runs (all earned) on nine hits in 3.2 innings. Caleb Brewer made his first Carolina League start but couldn't finish the fifth inning. He threw 4.2 innings and gave up four runs (all earned) on eight hits. Eliecer Cardenas (4-2) got credit for the win. He gave up one earned run in 4.1 innings and struck out six.

Winston-Salem and Lynchburg conclude the series on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark. LHP Matt Wickswat (5-3, 4.48) starts for the Dash opposite LHP Dimasther Delgado (8-6, 3.87).
