Dalles Comes Through in the Clutch

With two out in the bottom of the ninth inning, DH Justin Dalles hit a RBI double down the left field line to give the Keys a walk-off victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks. 1B Michael Flacco came around from first to score Frederick's fourth and final run of the evening. With the win, the Keys surpassed their 2010 win total as Frederick improved to 73-47 on the year.

LHP Jake Pettit took the hill for Frederick on Tuesday night. Pettit, who entered the game 5-0 in six starts as a Key, retired the first six Blue Rocks he faced including four via strikeout.

Michael Flacco put the first run on the board in the bottom of the second. Facing RHP Elisaul Pimentel, Flacco belted a deep shot to left field for his third home run as a Frederick Key.

The score remained 1-0 entering the bottom of the fifth when the Keys added to their advantage. 2B Michael Rooney led off the frame with an infield single. After RF Kyle Moore put down a sac bunt to move Rooney to second, CF Steve Bumbry struck out to bring 3B Dale Mollenhauer to the plate with two down. Mollenhauer singled to center. Rooney scored on the play to make it a two-run lead for the Keys. SS Manny Machado followed up with RBI double to left to put Frederick in front by three. Machado was thrown out at third trying to stretch his double into a triple. In frustration, Machado slammed his helmet and he was ejected from the game by field umpire Rich Gonzalez.

Wilmington began chipping away at their deficit in the sixth when RF Carlo Testa blasted a solo homer to right field. In the next inning, 1B Ryan Stovall and CF Yem Prades led off with back-to-back doubles. With one run home in the inning and Prades on second, Jake Pettit was relieved by RHP Kenny Moreland. After registering two outs, SS Michael Liberto tied the ballgame with a RBI double to right-center.

On the night, Pettit allowed three runs on six hits over 6+ innings while striking out six and walking one.

The contest remained tied at three entering the ninth inning. LHP Ashur Tolliver retired the Blue Rocks in order in the top of the ninth. With two down in the home half of the ninth, Michael Flacco hit a bloop single into shallow right field. Facing RHP Ryan Dennick, Justin Dalles come through with the biggest hit of the night. Dalles lined a double down the right field line. Off on contact, Flacco just beat the throw home from SS Michael Liberto as the Keys prevailed, 4-3.

In his Carolina League debut, Ashur Tolliver tossed two shutout innings en route to his first victory as a Frederick Key.

The Keys will try to complete the three-game sweep of the Blue Rocks on Wednesday night in Frederick. RHP Scott Copeland (2-0, 0.00) will get the nod for the Keys while Wilmington will turn to RHP Tyler Sample (7-10, 5.48). First pitch from Harry Grove Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
