High Desert Mavericks News Release

ADELANTO, Calif. - The California League announced today Post-Season awards for the 2016 season. Representing the High Desert Mavericks, Advanced-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers are: Manager Howard Johnson and players Jose Trevino and Scott Heineman. These awards cap off an amazing season for the team with two Mid-Season California League All-Stars including Jose Trevino, a First-Half South Division Championship and upcoming playoff games starting September 10 and 11 at Heritage Field.

"Everyone on this team has had an amazing season and our goal is to win a California League Championship," stated Mavericks General Manager Ben Hemmen. "However, HoJo, Jose and Scott have excelled beyond the rest of the California League at their respected positions and deserve All-Star recognition by their peers on other teams."

Johnson, who stepped into this season in his first managerial role since 2002, led High Desert to a 2016 First-Half Championship, marking the first one since 2012 when the Mavericks were affiliated with the Seattle Mariners. The former Major-Leaguer, who was a two-time All-Star during a 14-year career, has never been awarded with an honor like this as of yet in his coaching career.

"I appreciate the honor, but the players and my staff deserve the credit," said Manager Howard Johnson. "They are the ones who did the work and sacrificed day in and day out to get the players better. We will all share this great honor."

Trevino, 23, was named to the post-season team as the Catcher. This is Trevino's first Post-Season All- Star recognition and the Texas-native's fourth straight All-Star honor in the Rangers' organization. In 2015, Trevino was a Mid-Season All-Star with the Hickory Crawdads in the South Atlantic League and was also a MiLB.com Organization All-Star. In 2014, he was a Mid-Season All-Star with the Spokane Indians in the Northwest League. Trevino is currently rated as Texas Rangers number 22 prospect according to MLB.com.

Heineman, 23, who entered 2016 as his first full professional season, receives his first All-Star honor in his career as Outfielder. The SoCal-native is currently in the league's top 10 in batting average (.300), second in hits (141), fourth in doubles (33), third in extra-base hits (57), and first in runs scored (83 tied) and total bases (238). He received his first league recognition in July with Player of the Week honors. Heineman was signed in the eleventh round of the 2015 draft.

The Mavericks begin their final homestand EVER in the High Desert on Dora the Explorer Night and Family Feast Friday, August 26 at Heritage Field. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. PST, taking on the Lake Elsinore Storm, affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
