Visalia, CA. - A seven-run eighth spoiled a great start by Helmis Rodriguez in the Modesto Nuts' 9-6 loss to the Visalia Rawhide on Wednesday night at Recreation Park.
Helmis Rodriguez worked seven innings and surrendered just a two-run homer in the seventh. He struck out five and walked one on just 85 pitches. He handed a three-run lead to Troy Neiman (L, 6-4) and the Nuts' (26-33; 52-77) bullpen.
In that eighth, Victor Reyes smacked a two-run double. Cody Regis tied the game with a RBI single. Henry Castillo gave the Rawhide (29-30; 75-54) their first lead of the series with a RBI single. Michael Perez followed with a two-run double to knock Neiman out after just 0.2 of an inning.
The Nuts had taken the lead early. Shane Hoelscher smacked a RBI single in the first. In the fourth, the Nuts plated four unearned runs. When an error extended the inning, the Nuts followed up with five straight hits. Forrest Wall finished 4-for-5 with a RBI and two runs. Hoelscher had two RBI. Max White ripped a RBI double and walked.
Bud Jeter (W, 9-3) worked two scoreless innings out of the Rawhide bullpen.
