Hickory starter Luke Jackson and two relievers held Lexington to just one run on two hits as the Crawdads defeated the Legends 8-1 Saturday night in front of 6,711 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Jackson (1-1) recorded his first professional victory. He worked five innings, struck out six batters and allowed the Legends' only run when Delino DeShields led off the bottom of the first with his sixth home run of the year. Joe Van Meter and Nick McBride each pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Hickory broke through with three runs in the third, all after the first two batters were retired. Teodoro Martinez walked. Jurickson Profar doubled, scoring Martinez, and Profar advanced to third on the throw home. Jacob Skole followed with a single that plated Profar. After Christian Villanueva walked and Andrew Clark was hit by a pitch, Alejandro Selen hit an infield single that scored Skole, giving the Crawdads a 3-1 lead. The Crawdads put four more runs on the board in the fifth. Skole, Villanueva, and Clark drew consecutive walks from Legends 'reliever Juan Minaya to load the bases with no outs. After Selen struck out, a wild pitch by Gabriel Garcia plated Skole. One out later, Kellin Deglan walked to re-load the bases, and Paducah native Jonathan Roof doubled to left to drive in all three runners to put the Crawdads up 7-1. Hickory added its final run in the eighth. With one out, Selen singled, advanced to second on a groundout by Gomez, and scored on a single by Deglan. Lexington starter Tanner Bushue (6-2) took the loss after working the first four innings. Lexington now travels to Augusta, Georgia for a four game series beginning Sunday. First pitch for the opener is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
