CHARLESTON, S.C. - Nik Turley and the Charleston bullpen authored a four-hit shutout, as the RiverDogs blanked the Asheville Tourists, 2-0, in South Atlantic League action Saturday night in front of a crowd of 4,568 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Charleston snapped a six-game losing skid in improving to 24-38, while Asheville squandered a chance to get back to the .500 mark, falling to 30-32.

Charleston tallied a first inning marker for the second straight night to take a 1-0 lead against Asheville starter Tyler Matzek (0-1). Anderson Feliz stroked a single, and Gary Sanchez clobbered a line drive to the left-center field gap for a two-out RBI double.

The 18-year old Dominican designated hitter factored into another RiverDogs' run in the bottom of the third as the lead moved to 2-0. Sanchez worked a walk, and then chugged home to score from first on another clutch two-out base knock from Kelvin De Leon.

Turley (3-5) turned in 5.0 terrific innings of work to keep the potent Tourists' offense off the scoreboard. Turley allowed only one man to reach scoring position, and retired the side in order on three separate occasions. In total, the 6-6 southpaw permitted just three hits and displayed expert command while walking none and fanning five.

Matzek lasted 4.0 innings in his second start since returning to Asheville from the High-A Modesto Nuts. Rated the No. 1 prospect in the Colorado Rockies' system by Baseball America, Matzek once again struggled with his control. The 2009 first round selection walked four and allowed five hits, while striking out four along the way.

Tommy Kahnle showed his resolve to bounce back from a rough outing in his previous relief appearance. The Division II Lynn University product breezed through 3.0 innings, allowing only an infield single while striking out three with a powerful fastball and sharp slider.

Kelvin Perez ensured the RiverDogs would not be swept with quick work in the ninth. Perez issued a leadoff walk, but then struck out two en route to his fifth save of the campaign.
