Hickory Overcomes Early Deficit, Wins 4-2

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Edwin Garcia had three hits and two runs batted in as the Hickory Crawdads defeated the Lexington Legends 4-2 Monday night.

Garcia, who joined the Crawdads before Sunday's game and went 5-for-5, extended the string to eight straight hits before grounding out in the eighth inning.

The Legends scored first, putting two runs on the board in the third inning. With one out, DonAndre Clark doubled, but was later caught in a rundown between second and third when Corey Toups hit a grounder to shortstop Josh Morgan. Toups reached first on the play and then moved to third on a single by Chad Johnson. Wander Franco's single scored Toups, and Samir Duenez' infield hit brought Johnson home with the second run.

The Crawdads tied it at 2-2 in the fourth. Morgan led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, and to third after Eduard Pinto lined out to right fielder Alexis Rivera. Garcia's single scored Morgan, and Garcia came home on a two-out double by Jairo Beras.

In the sixth, Morgan led off with a single to center field, and Pinto bunted for a hit. A wild pitch allowed the runners to advance to second and third, and Garcia's single, his third hit of the game, scored Morgan with the tie-breaking run. Pinto scored the game's final run on a single by Luke Tendler.

Hickory starter Luis Parra (1-0) worked the first five innings got the win in his first start for Hickory since being moved to the Crawdads from Spokane of the Northwest League. Kelvin Vasquez pitched three scoreless innings, and Scott Williams got the save with a scoreless ninth, although he gave up a single to Rivera, a double to Luis Valenzuela and a walk to Toups.

The Legends left 10 men on base.

Legends starter Pedro Fernandez (6-2) took the loss.

The Crawdads have taken the first three games of the series, which concludes Tuesday. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
