AUGUSTA, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets, Single "A" affiliate of the 2014 World Champion San Francisco Giants, are proud to announce that starting pitcher Sam Coonrod has been named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week. This week's award reaches from the dates of July 20th through July 26th.
During Sam Coonrod's past week he started just one game against the Hickory Crawdads. In his longest outing of 2015, Coonrod pitched eight innings. He retired the first fourteen batters he faced with twelve of those fourteen outs being recorded as ground ball outs. When Coonrod left the mound his stat sheet read zero earned runs, three hits, and six strikeouts. The win improved Coonrod's record to six and three on the season.
Prior to today's July 27th game, Sam Coonrod sits at the top of the strike out total in the SAL with eight-nine, just two ahead of Savannah's Carlos Polanco. Coonrod's 2.45 ERA places him in third place just behind teammate Mark Reyes with an ERA of 2.43. He is also third in WHIP at 1.13 for the season.
