
Delmarva Snaps GreenJackets Streak

AUGUSTA, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets 51-49 (18-13) and the Delmarva Shorebirds 50-49 (17-14) took the field at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Monday night for the third time of the series. The newly announced SAL Pitcher of the Week Sam Coonrod started the game for the GreenJackets on the mound. Coonrod who only lasted one and one third innings struggled Monday night and took the loss on the night, as the GreenJackets fell to the Shorebirds with a score of nine to five.
After four and a half innings of play and nine runs on the board for the Shorebirds the GreenJackets were finally able to put a run on the board Monday night in the bottom of the fourth inning. Skyler Ewing reached home on a sacrifice fly hit by Dylan Davis. The GreenJackets ended the fourth inning still down eight runs.
In the bottom of the fifth inning the GreenJackets chipped away again at the Shorebirds lead. Skyler Ewing hit twenty-fourth double of the year to score both Travious Relaford and Jonah Arenado. At the plate on Monday night, Ewing went two for three with two doubles and two RBI.
Another highlight during a rough night for the GreenJackets was designed hitter Andrew Cain. Cain who went two for four on the night and raised his batting average back over the two hundred mark on the season. Cain, who already had a double on the night, hit a solo shot to left center field in the bottom of the sixth inning for his eighth home run of 2015.
The GreenJackets added one more run in the ninth inning to make the final score stand at nine to five. With the loss the GreenJackets snap a seven game winning streak. Tonight's final scoreboard line reads nine runs, sixteen hits, and one error for the Delmarva Shorebirds and five runs, eleven hits, and one error for the Augusta GreenJackets. Sam Coonrod (6-3 ERA 2.91) takes the loss and Shorebirds starter Josh Walker (6-2 ERA 3.35) receives the victory.
Tuesday night is the seventh and final game of the GreenJackets current homestand. RHP Pat Young and LHP Brain Gonzalez are the probable starting pitchers for the 7:05pm match up at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
