Lexington Legends News Release
Jake Skole had a double, triple and a homer as the Hickory Crawdads pounded out 12 hits on their way to a 10-3 win over the Lexington Legends Saturday night in Hickory.
The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a walk to Jay Austin, a fielder's choice, and a double by Telvin Nash, but the Crawdads came back with two in the bottom half. Jurickson Profar reached second on an error by right fielder Domingo Santana, moved to third on Odubel Herrera's ground out, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tomas Telis. Christian Villanueva's double and Skole's triple produced the second run.
Hickory added three runs in the second inning. With one out, Kellin Deglan walked and moved to third on a single by Jhonny Gomez. Profar struck out, but Herrera's single drove in two runs. Herrera went to second when his hit got by left fielder Ruben Sosa for an error, and scored on a base hit by Telis to give the Crawdads a 5-1 lead.
Hickory extended the lead to 7-1 on back-to-back homers in the fifth inning by Villanueva and Skole.
The Legends scored two runs in the sixth. Tyler Burnett walked and stole second, and after Ben Orloff walked, Sosa doubled into the left field corner, scoring both runners.
The Crawdads got those runs back in the seventh. Telis led off with a single and scored on Skole's one-out double. Skole moved to third on a ground out by Josh Richmond and came home on a wild pitch by Legends' reliever Alex Sogard.
Hickory scored its final run in the bottom of the eighth on a walk to Profar, a ground out, a single by Telis and a sacrifice fly by Villanueva.
Skole almost got the single he needed to hit for the cycle with a grounder up the middle in the eighth inning, but second baseman Delino DeShields Jr. made a diving stop and tossed to shortstop Ben Orloff for a force play at second base.
Cody Buckel (7-3), who entered the game in the third inning, got the win. Legends' starter Tanner Bushue (6-6) took the loss.
Hickory has taken two out of three in the series, which concludes Sunday. Game time is 5 p.m.
