Henschel Shuts Down Thunder Offense

Coastal Bend Thunder News Release

August 12, 2009 - Robstown, Texas - While it may be easy to put the blame on the offense for not producing in support of J.J Trujillo at Fairgrounds Field, it is more accurate to give credit to San Angelo starter Brian Henschel for his dominating performance this evening. The Colt righty allowed just four hits and an unearned run with some help from a couple nice plays by the San Angelo defense. J.J. Trujillo scattered nine hits, struck out seven and only allowed three runs in the 3-1 loss. Both pitchers threw complete games and with the loss the Thunder slip to 26-34 in United League Baseball.

San Angelo got on the board first with a single tally in the top of the third. Three singles in the inning led to the run as Gaines' single with runners on first and third and two outs allowed Lanto to cross the plate.

The Colts added another run in the top of the fifth. After a leadoff triple by Hank Lanto, Hunter Jobes singled sharply to right to make the score 2-0.

Coastal Bend broke through in the bottom of the sixth against Henschel. With runners on second and third and two outs, Manny Mejia singled to center and drove in Kevin Butler from third. Center Fielder Hunter Jobes made an unbelieveable throw from center field to throw out Chris Lewis at the plate as he attempted to tie the game.

The Thunder host the Colts in Game two of this four game series. Coastal Bend is home for an eight game homestead where they will take on the San Angelo Colts and Edinburg RoadRunners at Fairgrounds Field in Robstown, Texas.
