Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Despite a tumultuous off-season of where the Dillas would call home, in terms of a league, the uncertainty has proven to go unrecognized by the Amarillo faithful. After a rain-shortened series sweep against the Coastal Bend Thunder, the Dillas welcome the Laredo Broncos tonight for the first game of a four-game set before heading on the road to face the league leading San Angelo Colts.
It doesn't take a calculator or an actuary to figure out why the Dillas have been voted "Best of Amarillo Best Sports Team" for three years running because the formula is pretty simple, Amarillo plus Dillas' fans equals record attendance.
The Dillas go into tonight's game with 96,834 fans having walked through the turnstiles at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa this year. The Amarillo club has set United League attendance marks during the same time period of their "Best of" awards and with just 3,166 fans the Dillas will break the 100,000 mark in attendance tonight. Everyone will receive free admission courtesy of the corporate partner who bears the name of the very stadium in which they play, Amarillo National Bank - talk about a perfect fit.
"We are blessed to have the fans that we do", Dillas General Manager Mark Lee. "Our fans have proven that it isn't necessarily about winning because until our championship season last year, we didn't really give them a whole lot to be excited about in terms of our play on the field but what separates us (Dillas) from the rest of this league and many other leagues, pure and simple are the fans".
The Dillas open the four-game series with the Broncos tonight with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Firmly in third-place, the Dillas will look to keep pace with the Edinburg Roadrunners who have beat Laredo last night 6-3 earning their ninth consecutive victory. The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club is a charter member of United League Baseball, a Professional Independent League, with six teams playing in Texas. ULB teams are located in Amarillo, Coastal Bend, Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, and San Angelo.
