Wins of 5-4 and 5-3 push Dillas within seven of first

AMARILLO, TX - With a comeback wins in each game, the Amarillo Dillas swept the three-game series over the Coastal Bend Thunder with 5-4 and 5-3 wins on Tuesday night in front of 2,387 fans at the ANB Dilla Villa.

Dillas starters Richard Jessup (5-4) went the distance in game one, while Dustin Taylor (5-3) was an out short of a complete game in game two. Robbie Wooley got his fourth save of the season in game two.

Amarillo faced an early deficit in game one as Coastal Bend scored four runs in the first two innings, including three runs batted in by Manny Mejia for a 4-0 lead.

The Dillas would chip away in the bottom of 2nd with two unearned runs. Lockwood reached on an error, followed by a Stantrel Smith double to put two runners in scoring position. Coby Mavroulis grounded out to score Lockwood, while Eric Brown singled home Smith for a 4-2 deficit.

Amarillo would tie the game in the fifth as Carlos Figueroa singled and scored on a Lockwood RBI triple. The Dillas first baseman came across the plate on a Smith RBI single for a 4-4 tie game.

Jessup finished off the Thunder through the seventh to keep the game tied. In the bottom of the seventh, Figueroa walked and was pinch ran for Simon. Terrance McClain singled to knock out starting pitcher Alejandro Martinez (1-2). Closer Benny Cepeda came in and allowed the game-winning RBI single to Lockwood for a 5-4 Dillas win.

In game two, Amarillo scored first in the second inning with a bases loaded double play for a 1-0 lead. The Thunder responded with two in the third on RBIs by Alfred Joseph and Leivi Ventura. They would add on one more in the third as Mejia scored on an error for a 3-1 Coastal Bend advantage.

The Dillas re-took the lead in the fourth. With the bases loaded, Lockwood scored on a wild pitch. With two runners in scoring position, Willie James singled to left to score both runners for a one-run lead. Amarillo would add an insurance run in the fifth as Andrew Wong scored on an error for a 5-3 lead.

Taylor almost went all seven innings, but a two-out error extended the game. Wooley came in, walked a batter to load the bases, but got the final out to preserve the 5-3 win.

With the wins, the Dillas improve to 32-27, while the Thunder fall to 26-33. Wednesday, Amarillo will host the Laredo Broncos for the opening game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50 on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
