Henry Dominates as the Missions Win Third in a Row

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions recorded their seventh shutout victory of the season on Wednesday night. With Henry Henry tossing five no-hit innings and Joshua Mears hitting a grand slam, the Missions were in full control of game two against the Springfield Cardinals. San Antonio added three more runs while allowing just two base hits on their way to a 7-0 win.

Michael McGreevy was the starting pitcher for the Springfield Cardinals. After a scoreless first inning, the 9th ranked Cardinals' prospect allowed four runs in the second inning courtesy of one swing of the bat. Yorman Rodriguez and Webster Rivas began the inning with back-to-back singles. Kelvin Melean attempted a sacrifice bunt but ended up reaching base on a fielding error by McGreevy. With the bases loaded, he struck out Jorge Ona before facing Joshua Mears. The 15th ranked Padres' prospect launched a grand slam to left field to give the Missions a 4-0 lead. This was his third career grand slam.

McGreevy recovered from the grand slam and retired each Missions batter through the next three innings before allowing a base hit to Rodriguez in the top of the sixth inning.

Henry Henry was the starting pitcher for the San Antonio Missions. Through five innings of work, he failed to allow a base hit. He issued a leadoff walk to Matt Koperniak in the second inning and a walk to Nick Antico in the third inning. His control became an issue in the fifth inning as he walked three batters to load the bases. With the bases loaded and two outs, Nick Dunn grounded out to end the scoring threat and keep the no-hitter alive. Henry was replaced by Jordan Guerrero in the top of the sixth inning.

San Antonio added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Melean began the inning with a single to left field. After striking out the next batter, McGreevy was replaced by Gianluca Dalatri. The right-hander struck out Mears before allowing a single to Ethan Skender. Connor Hollis drove in Melean and Skender with a double to right field. The Missions improved their lead to 6-0.

Guerrero pitched a scoreless sixth inning to preserve the no-hitter. Alek Jacob entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. After striking out the leadoff batter, Justin Toerner laced a single into right field to end the combined no-hitter.

The Missions added their seventh run of the game in the top of the eighth inning. Juan Fernandez started the inning off with a base hit to right field. He advanced to second base on a ground out from Rodriguez. Rivas drove in Fernandez with a single to left-center field.

The San Antonio Missions will continue their six-game series with the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday, September 8th. Right-hander Kevin Kopps (1-1, 3.91) is scheduled to pitch for the Missions. Right-hander Logan Gragg (0-1, 8.31) is scheduled to pitch for the Cardinals. First pitch is expected at 6:35 p.m. from Hammons Field.
