Heavyweight Battle Pins Blades against Oil Kings
November 9, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
It's a battle of Eastern Conference heavyweights as the Saskatoon Blades (9-4-1-0) play host to the Edmonton Oil Kings (9-3-1-1) in the first of six meetings between the two squads this season.
The Blades are looking to rebound after dropping back-to-back contests against the Prince Albert Raiders, and sit just a single point back of Edmonton for second in the conference.
Both teams come into SaskTel Centre ranked in the CHL's weekly Top 10, with the Blades cracking the list at #8 last week, and the Oil Kings sitting #3. This is Saskatoon's third and final home game of the month.
The team will hit the road for nine consecutive games afterwards, making way for the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials at Sasktel Centre later this month.
The Oil Kings are opening up a four-game swing through Saskatchewan, with their next stop Wednesday night in Prince Albert.
Who to Watch
Import forward Egor Sidorov continues to climb the rookie scoring charts in the WHL, now with 13 points (7G-6A) in 14 games. The Belarusian rookie notched his third goal in four games Saturday night, scoring Saskatoon's opening marker, and added an assist for his second multi-point performance of the season. The draft-eligible winger sits tied for fourth in the WHL rookie scoring race.
San Jose Sharks prospect Tristen Robins sits tied for the league lead in scoring with 23 points. The pending WHL graduate notched his eighth goal of the season Saturday night, his first since netting a hat-trick against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Oct. 27.
Alternate captain Kyle Crnkovic sits third in the WHL goal-scoring race with 10 on the season, however the 2002-born winger hasn't found the net in three games.
On the Record
Head coach Brennan Sonne catches up with local media following Saturday's contest against the Prince Albert Raiders.
