Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford posted a 2-3 record on a road trip through Texas and Oklahoma this past week as they battled for supremacy in the West with five games in seven days over the 10 day excursion.

Danny Taylor started all five games running his total of con- secutive games started to 16 since joining the club. Taylor made 141 saves on the trip while allowing only seven goals and recorded his second shut- out wearing a Heat sweater.

When they hit the road the Heat hadn't allowed a power play goal against since January 6th, a streak of 29 consecutive penalty kills that was snapped during the final game against the Ram- page. The club remains the top penalty killers in the AHL with an 87.9% kill rate.

Jon Rheault scored a pair on the trip including his 15th of the sea- son in OKC adding to his success- es against the Barons already this season (3-4-7) over the five games against Oklahoma.

The Heat open a four game home stand on Friday and Sat- urday as the Charlotte Checkers make their first and only visit to the Fraser Valley this season. This home stand will mark the first time in league history that the Heat and Checkers will face off.

The Carolina Hurricanes affiliate is 7-8-1-0 against West Division foes but have yet to face the Heat. The Checkers are in the thick of a four-way battle for top spot in the Midwest Division with the Chicago Wolves, Milwaukee Admirals, and Peoria Rivermen; all four teams are separated by just five points.

Checkers defender Bobby San- guinetti was just selected as the reGen Muscle Recovery Bev- erage/AHL Performance of the Month for December by the AHL. After missing 10 games with a broken foot, Sanguinetti posted five assists in seven games dur- ing the month of December. BCHL grads Riley Nash and Zac Dalpe will be returning to British Columbia, Nash played in Salm- on Arm, while Dalpe suited up in Penticton.

The AHL's West Division has been the toughest in the league through the first half of the season, as the top three teams (Oklahoma City Barons, Houston Aeros and Abbotsford Heat) sit within two points of each other in a hotly contested and ongoing battle for first place.

With their current point total of 51, the Abbotsford Heat would be leading any other division in the AHL except the East where Hershey owns top spot with 55. Instead, however, they find themselves in third place behind both the Barons and Aeros in the AHL's most competitive division.

Abbotsford and Oklahoma City have both played 40 games while Houston holds a game in hand having played 39. The standings in the Wild Wild West can look completely different on any given morning de- pending on the previous night's schedule.
