January 17, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club announced today the entertainment schedule for the 2012 AHL Outdoor Classic presented by Molson Canadian and Boston Pizza. Local talents Sons of the Hammer, the Mike Plume Band, and former Boston Bruins forward Kraig Neinhuis will be headlining pre-game, intermission, and post-game shows at the 2012 PepsiCo AHL Outdoor Classic Alumni / Celebrity Game on Friday, January 20th, 2012 and at the "Steeltown Showdown" on Saturday, January 21st, 2012.
The festivities start shortly after doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the Outdoor Classic Alumni / Celebrity Game on Friday, January 20th, 2012. Mike Plume Band, who hail from Bonnyville, Alberta, will be providing the pre-game entertainment, along with Sons of the Hammer. The Mike Plume Band (Anastasios Basiliadis on the drums, Benjamin "GD" Wilson on the bass guitar, Mike Plume on guitar and vocals) will bring their powerhouse roots style to Hamilton with past hits like Songs From a Northern Town and 8:30 in Newfoundland.
Sons of the Hammer features Gord Lewis, formerly of Teenage Head, and an original member of Canada's punk scene, who has teamed up with the rockin' roots energy of old friend and collaborator Tom Wilson (Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Junkhouse) to form a rock n' roll super band. Named in honour of their hometown of Hamilton, Sons of the Hammer also includes Teenage Head band mates Steve Marshall and Jack Pedler.
Performing the anthems at both games will be the 150 Voice B.R Xpression Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of David Tabone. The B.R. Xpression is the pride of Hamilton's Bishop Ryan High School, and has won numerous performance gold medals at festivals in Boston, Chicago, New York City, and more. They will be accompanied by the Argyll Pipe Band, a pipe and drum band that currently operates as a Reserve Unit of the Canadian Armed Forces. The Outdoor Classic will also feature a colour guard composed of members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police based in Hamilton/Niagara.
Doors open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21st, 2012 for the "Steeltown Showdown". Fans will be treated to a pre-game show by Mike Plume Band and a second intermission show by Kraig Neinhuis.
Playing at an outdoor hockey game is nothing new for "9 House". The former Boston Bruins forward, who played 20 years of professional hockey and scored 20 goals in his first 86 games, performed at the NHL Winter Classic in Buffalo in 2008 in front of 75,000 fans, and last year at the Big Chill in Michigan before a world record 114,000 fans.
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum will also be performing a flyover during the anthems on Saturday.
