Heat Vs Marlies Game Preview

April 13, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat will look to secure the final home ice playoff spot in the Western Conference tonight as they open a season-ending two-game set with the Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs). While both the Marlies and Heat have secured playoff spots in the West, neither squad knows which team they'll face in the first round, or where they'll finish in the standings. The Marlies enter the weekend tied for top spot in the Western Conference with the Oklahoma City Barons who hold a game-in-hand; the Heat require two points to clinch fourth.

While the Heat have earned 13 of a possible 14 points over their last seven games, the Marlies have won six straight to close the gap on the Oklahoma City Barons who have had a tight grip on top spot in the Western Conference since mid-January. The Marlies are allowing the fewest goals against in the AHL with 167 surrendered over their 74 games played. By contrast, the Heat sit in sixth in the league with 197 goals against.

Tonight's game is the final 'Loonie Toonie Dog 'n Brew' game of the season and will be followed by a Victoria Duffield concert at the conclusion of the game. Sunday's Fan Appreciation Game and season finale will see over 5,000 prizes given away, including a 'Sick Civic' from Honda Way and all the game worn jerseys off the backs of the Heat players. Sunday's game is immediately followed by the club's year-end award presentations, and the annual 'Cuts for the Cure' that sees players and fans shave their heads to raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation.

This weekend's broadcasts of the Heat's final regular season games can be heard on Country 107.1 with the pre-game show beginning thirty minutes prior to puck drop. Tonight's game starts at 7:00PM, while Sunday is a 1PM start from the AESC. Broadcasts are also available on Country 107.1's website, theAHL.com, and on the Rogers Radio App for your wireless device.
