Final Weekend Begins Tonight Against Milwaukee
April 13, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.-The last time the Rockford IceHogs and Milwaukee Admirals met, the two teams combined for 162 penalty minutes in Rockford's 2-1 shootout win at the Bradley Center on April 1. Since then, the two teams have gone in opposite directions and tonight is the season-series finale at the BMO Harris Bank Center at 7:05 p.m.
Tonight's game kicks off the final weekend of the 2011-12 season for Rockford and the first 5,000 fans to the game will receive an IceHogs team photo courtesy of the Rockford Register Star. Tickets can be purchased by calling (815) 986-5222, online through icehogs.com or at the BMO Harris Bank Center Box Office.
To listen to tonight's game, tune into 100.5 NTA FM, 1330 AM WNTA, 1380 AM WTJK or on the web through nta.fm beginning at 6:35 p.m. with the U.S. Cellular Pregame Show. The game can be seen on Comcast Cable channel-57 or at AHLlive.com.
Rockford hasn't won (0-3-0-0) since their 2-1 shootout victory over Milwaukee on April 1 and has been eliminated from Calder Cup Playoff contention. On the flip side, the previously sliding Admirals have turned things around since the defeat, going 4-1-0-0 in five games since to climb back into the top eight in the Western Conference.
If Milwaukee comes up short in their quest for the postseason, they can blame the IceHogs as Rockford has won eight straight against their Midwest Division rivals and have a record of 9-1-0-1 against the Ads this season. The nine wins against Milwaukee is a team record for Rockford for most wins in a season against an opponent.
Since a 7-3 thrashing by the Admirals on Dec. 26, Rockford has won all eight meetings between the two clubs. The games, however, have been tight as five of Rockford's wins have been by just one goal with two others by a pair of tallies.
After a 3-0 loss to Charlotte on Tuesday, Rockford is expected to get team-leading scorer Brandon Pirri and team captain Brian Fahey back for tonight's game, along with Shawn Lalonde and Rob Flick who were both serving a three-game AHL suspension.
Milwaukee's magic number to clinch a playoff spot is four points heading into tonight's game with three games remaining on their regular season slate. The Ads are tied for the sixth spot in the Western Conference with 82 points with Houston, Peoria, Lake Erie and Rochester.
Next Home Game: Saturday, April 14 vs. Charlotte Checkers. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs conclude the 2011-12 regular season against the Checkers. Saturday is Fan Appreciation Night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. The first 5,000 fans through the doors will receive an IceHogs team photo sponsored by the Rockford Register Star, plus all fans will have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes including Blackhawks playoff tickets. After each whistle, the IceHogs will give away gift certificates and special offers from local businesses. In addition, fans will have the chance to win a jersey off the back of a current IceHogs skater following Saturday's game.
