WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - The IronBirds lost in heartbreaker in extra innings, as Hudson Valley prevailed in a walk-off 8-7 victory. Hudson Valley came back from five runs down, and the Renegades eventually broke the tie with a sacrifice fly in the 11th. For the second night in a row, Aberdeen fell to Hudson Valley by a one-run margin.

The IronBirds jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Anthony Vega started the 1st with a leadoff walk. Creede Simpson and Torsten Boss followed up with singles, loading the bases with no outs. Joel Hutter drove home Vega on a sacrifice fly to center field. Eduar Quinonez limited the damage to just one run as he got out of the inning with a strikeout of Cameron Edman.

Hudson Valley tied the ballgame up 1-1 in the third inning. After IronBirds' starting pitcher Brady Wager worked out of jams in the first and second, the Renegades broke through in the third. Joey Rickard led off the inning with a hit by pitch. Richie Shaffer plated Rickard on an RBI single up the middle to tie the game.

In the fifth inning, the scoring started coming in bunches. In the top of the inning, the IronBirds retook the lead 6-1. Creede Simpson hit his fourth home run of the season, and his second home run of the series. The three-run blast made it 4-1, and Aberdeen followed up with two more runs. A Tommy Coyle error helped extend the inning as Cameron Edman hit a sacrifice to score Joel Hutter. Manny Hernandez hit an RBI double to bring home Sam Kimmel to complete the five-run fifth inning.

However, the Renegades stormed back with their own rally in the fifth. Brady Wager walked Joey Rickard to start the inning. Four consecutive base hits followed, including RBI singles from Richie Shaffer and Luke Maile. Ryan Dunn drove home a pair of runs with a two-run double. Sander Beck came on to replace Wager with Dunn at second representing the tying run. Dunn advanced on two wild pitches from Beck, coming home to tie the game 6-6. Sander Beck pitched a fantastic outing in relief. Despite the wild pitches to tie the game, Beck bounced back with three strong innings without allowing a run. Beck allowed just one hit and struck out a career-high seven batters.

Josh Hader came on to replace Sander Beck in the eighth inning. After a 1-2-3 inning, Hader came out in the ninth to preserve the 6-6 tie. A walk to Richie Shaffer put the winning run aboard. After Shaffer moved up to second, Ryan Dunn hit a slow grounder to short. Joel Hutter fielded but his throw was high, allowing Dunn to reach. However, Shaffer rounded third heading for home and he was caught in a rundown. Edman threw to Boss and third, who threw to home and Kalush applied the tag on a close play at the plate.

The Renegades broke the deadlock in the eleventh to take the victory in walk-off fashion. With Bennett Parry on the mound for the 'Birds, Charles Epperson led off the eleventh with a single into left. He then stole second base, and the throw from Scott Kalush went into centerfield allowing Epperson to advance to third on the error. Tommy Coyle hit a high fly ball into centerfield and Anthony Vega's throw was not in time to get Epperson tagging up. The sacrifice fly gave Hudson Valley the 7-6 walk-off victory, extending their winning streak to eight games.

Bennett Parry took the loss for the IronBirds, falling to 0-2 on the season. Marcus Jensen, who pitched a perfect 11th inning, recorded the win, improving his record to 4-1. Jordan Harrison came on in relief of starter Eduar Quinonez, and he pitched 3.1 innings without allowing a baserunner. Harrison got 10 outs on 10 batters faced. Dylan Floro also pitched well for a solid bullpen showing from both clubs, as he pitched through the ninth and tenth innings without allowing a run.

The IronBirds will face off against the Renegades for the series finale on Sunday August 26th before heading home for a seven-game homestand. Aberdeen will send RHP Sebastian Vader (1-6, 4.17) to the mound, while Hudson Valley will counter with RHP Jesse Hahn (2-2, 3.21). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Coverage will begin on the IronBirds Radio Network at 12:50 p.m.
