Healy's Heroics Trump Travs in Finale

North Little Rock, AR - The Midland RockHounds utilized a three-run double in the ninth inning to beat the Arkansas Travelers 4-1 at Dickey-Stephens Park on Saturday night.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth and the game tied 1-1, 'Hounds 1B Ryon Healy lined a double to the left-center gap to put Midland up for good.

Arkansas trailed 1-0 in the seventh when C Anthony Bemboom led off with a double. After RF Brandon Bayardi dropped down a sacrifice bunt, LF Bo Way came through with a clutch two-out RBI single to tie the game 1-1.

Midland starter RHP Daniel Mengden tossed six shutout innings and allowed just two hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. RockHounds starting pitchers struck out 25 Travs over the three-game series.

Mengden was countered by Travs starter RHP Jordan Kipper who was also making his Double-A debut. Kipper allowed a run on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Midland's first run came thanks to a 3B Matt Chapman solo home run in the sixth.

RHP Aaron Kurcz (W, 1-0) picked up the win for the RockHounds with two scoreless innings between the eighth and ninth. Kurcz struck out four.

LHP Edward Paredes and RHP Alan Busenitz both tossed 1.1 scoreless innings out of the 'pen for Arkansas. The three runs in the ninth were plated off RHP D.J. Johnson (L, 0-1).

Arkansas mustered 13 hits over the three-game series.

With the loss, the Travs fell to 1-2 on the season. The Travelers will welcome the Frisco RoughRiders to town to begin a three-game series on Sunday. Frisco swept the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in its season-opening series.
