PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Beavers manager Randy Ready has been named the Pacific Coast League's "Best Manager Prospect" in Baseball America's annual "Best Tools" survey featured in the publication's Aug. 25-Sept. 7 issue.

Additionally, Portland left-hander Wade LeBlanc got the nod for "Best Control" among league pitchers, outfielder Will Venable was selected for "Best Strike Zone Judgment" and Chase Headley was chosen as the "Best Batting Prospect" in the PCL this season.

Each season, Baseball America surveys minor league managers to rank the top players in their respective leagues in a number of hitting, pitching and fielding categories. In all, the publication ranks 21 different categories, including the "Best Manager Prospect," the only non-player honor.

Ready, who is in his first year with the Beavers, began his managerial career in 2002 and has compiled a 438-392 (.528) record in seven seasons as a minor league manager (through Aug. 14, 2008). The 48-year-old guided the Class AA San Antonio Missions to a Texas League title in 2007, and for his efforts, received the San Diego Padres' Jack Krol award at season's end for his outstanding contributions to player development in the organization.

As a player, Ready spent 13 seasons in the major leagues, batting .259 with 40 home runs and 239 RBIs in 777 career games while playing for Milwaukee (1983-86), San Diego (1986-89), Philadelphia (1989-91; 1994-95), Oakland (1992) and Montreal (1993).
