
Final Nine Home Games of 2008 Begin on Saturday

FRESNO, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies kick off their final, nine-game homestand of the season on Saturday, August 16th when they welcome the Las Vegas 51's and the Phillie Phanatic to Chukchansi Park. The final nine home games of the 2008 campaign, against the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the rival Sacramento River Cats, are stocked with fun for the whole family.
The Grizzlies open their final homestand of the year on Saturday night when the fiercest rivalry in the National League West (Giants/Dodgers) is played out at the Triple-A level between Fresno and Las Vegas. On the 16th Chukchansi Park will welcome a very special guest, the world-famous Phillie Phanatic presented by Claim Jumper Restaurant, who will take on hometown favorite Parker in a Mascot Showdown.
Saturday will also be Scott McClain Appreciation Night, honoring one of the most prolific power hitters in Minor League Baseball. During the game, one fan will be chosen from all that purchase the "At Bat With Mac" Pack at FresnoGrizzlies.com for a grand prize that includes batting practice at Chukchansi Park with McClain, and four 600 Club tickets to a future game. Following the game and Parker's Pitch, kids will be allowed on the outfield grass to participate in the World's Second Biggest Water Fight, featuring sprinklers, hoses, and the Holiday Pools Squirt Buggy.
Finally, the Grizzlies will partner with Community Regional Medical Center to raise money and awareness for Terry's House. Once completed, the project will offer convenient and affordable lodging for families while their loved ones receive critical care. A silent auction will be conducted on the concourse with 100% of the proceeds going to Terry's House and funds generated through a special pre-sale of tickets will be donated in total.
Save Mart Sunday, August 17th is "Pigskin and Pom-Poms" Night at Chukchansi Park, to kick off the football season in the San Joaquin Valley. In addition to an assortment of football themed activities throughout the night, there will be an appearance by the Raiderettes. In honor of the theme, Sunday's post-game movie on the stadium video board will be Little Giants. Like all Sundays at the Park, fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from selected Grizzlies players on the concourse before the game thanks to ABC30, and kids can run the bases on the field following the contest, courtesy of Del Taco.
On Monday, August 18th, fans can take advantage of the best deal in baseball, the Monday Madness package presented by Wienerschnitzel: Two tickets, two hot dogs, two sodas, and two Island Waterpark passes, all for just $14. Like all Tuesdays at Chukchansi Park, August 19th is a Taco Tuesday, presented by 95.7 The Fox, where all tacos, taquitos, churros (all game long), and 16oz Tecate beers (until 8:00pm) are just $2. Both of these nights, like all games for the rest of the season, will feature the Holiday Pools Splash Zone where Parker cools off the crowd in the right-field corner with a water cannon.
August 20th is a very special Wednesday night at the ballpark when the Grizzlies open the next chapter in the Highway-99 Showdown Series with the Sacramento River Cats. The 2008 Faith Nights Baseball Tour comes to the Central Valley and Hawk Nelson, who also appeared in 2007, will perform a pre-game concert (contact Chukchansi Park box office for ticket details), and there will be an appearance by the Veggie Tales. Because of the special performance, the usual Way Back Wednesday deals at Chukchansi Park are not available.
On Thirsty Thursday, August 21st (presented by 104.1 âIt Just Rocks') Grizzlies fans can beat the heat with12oz. Tecate Light beers until the 5th inning for just $1, and dollar-sodas will be available all night long. The 21st is the final Thirsty Thursday of the season.
Prior to Thursday's game, the Grizzlies and AIG will present a check to Big Brothers, Big Sisters as the culmination of the double play promotion that has gone on this season at Chukchansi Park. Additionally, the club will partner with the Central Valley Business Incubator for Entrepreneurship Night, to promote the growth of emerging, locally-owned businesses throughout the Valley.
Fresno opens the final home weekend of the season on Friday, August 22nd with a full slate of entertainment beyond that night's matchup on the field between the Grizzlies and rival River Cats. In addition to the regular Friday night highlights such as fantastic Friday Night Fireworks (courtesy of Bingham Toyota and KMJ580) and Orange-Out T-Shirts (first 1,000 fans, courtesy of Rally's), the first 2,500 fans will receive magnet schedules with the Grizzlies 2009 schedule courtesy of AIG and the Drag Kings will perform.
As part of the Highway-99 Showdown Series, both the Grizzlies and River Cats will wear throwback jerseys of their parent clubs in a âThrowback Throwdown'. The Grizzlies will be dressed in orange Giants jerseys from the 1970's, while the River Cats will wear classic, green A's jerseys. Following the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off atop the first-base dugout to benefit the Grizzlies Community Fund.
Saturday, August 23rd will be the Fresno Grizzlies "Salute to the Metric System" at Chukchansi Park. In addition to theme night festivities, the first 2,500 fans into the Park will receive their first metric lesson of the night in the form of a Grizzlies collectible 473-mililiter cup (pint cup) presented by the American Lung Association. Chukchansi Park will also serve that night as the kick-off site for the American Lung Association of California's FLAG program, intended to raise awareness about air quality in the area.
The Grizzlies wrap up their 2008 home schedule on Save Mart Sunday, August 24th with Fan Appreciation Day. As with every Sunday, fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from selected Grizzlies players on the concourse before the game thanks to ABC30, and kids can run the bases on the field following the contest, courtesy of Del Taco. Prior to the post-game base run however, will be a special fireworks extravaganza presented by Save Mart.
