Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, CA - Central Valley football fans will flock to Chukchansi Park on Sunday, August 17th to celebrate the upcoming 2008 season when the Fresno Grizzlies host Pigskin N' Pom-Poms night at the ballpark. The entire evening will be dedicated to football when the Grizzlies take on the Las Vegas 51's, including an appearance and autograph session with the Raiderettes.
With only nine home games left this season at Chukchansi Park, the Minor League baseball season is drawing to a close, but football season is ready and waiting to fill the void in the Valley. The Grizzlies will help fans make that transition with their first annual Pigskin N' Pom-Poms night at the ballpark. The entire night will be centered around a football theme, and fans are encouraged to wear their favorite jerseys if they choose not to don the orange and black of the Grizzlies.
The highlight of the evening will be a special appearance by a pair of Raiderettes, the legendary cheerleading squad of the Oakland Raiders established in 1961. The two women will throw out ceremonial first pitches, sign autographs and take pictures with Grizzlies fans on the Chukchansi Park concourse.
In-game activities will feature football highlights, and a nod to the collegiate ranks with fight song trivia. In place of the regular Chukchansi Park Dance Cam, the video board will feature the Touchdown Dance Cam for fans to tap into their inner Chad Johnson or Terrell Owens. Selected children will get the chance to take a run at Parker and a tackling dummy on the field as well.
As with each Sunday during the second-half of the baseball season, the game against Las Vegas on the 17th will be followed by a movie on the Chukchansi Park video board. In keeping with the theme, Sunday's post-game movie will be Little Giants, starring Rick Moranis and Ed O'Neill, and fans will be allowed on the outfield grass to enjoy the show.
The Fresno Grizzlies return to Chukchansi Park to kick off their final nine home games of the season on Saturday, August 16th when the Las Vegas 51's, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, come to town. Hometown favorite Parker will take on the famous Phillie Phanatic that night in a Mascot Showdown.
