
Hawks Sneak Past Captains 1-0

Lake County Captains News Release
(South Bend, IN)- Blake Perry (0-1) twirled six and two thirds innings of shutout baseball as South Bend beat Lake County 1-0. Perry allowed just one hit three walks and he struck out six. South Bend used two relievers to shut down the Captains. Silvino Bracho (1-0) earned the win. J.R. Bradley earned his third save of the season after striking out the side in the ninth. The Captains have lost seven straight games.
Lake County (5-16) got one hit in the game. The two- out singe in the seventh inning by Anthony Santander was all the offense could muster against the Hawks.
South Bend (13-8) scored the game winning run and only run of the ballgame in the bottom of the eighth inning. Zach Esquerra was hit by a pitch to begin the inning. After a ground ball moved him to second base, Jamie Westbrook hit a sharp grounder to short. The trow to first sailed down the right field line allowing Esquerra to score and that was the difference in the ball game and the 1-0 Silver Hawks win.
LHP Luis Lugo (0-3) started the game for the Captains. Lugo did not get the decision. Lugo pitched six innings and allowed just two hits and zero runs. Lugo walked just one and struck out six. Robbie Aviles (0-1) was saddled with the loss. Aviles pitched two innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits. Aviles hit one batter and fanned one
The Captains will stay on the road in South Bend, IN on Saturday to take on the South Bend Silver Hawks in game two of a three game series. The Captains will start RHP Dace Kime (0-3, 11.30) and South Bend will counter with RHP Ben Eckels (1-2, 8.49). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Four Winds Field.
