
Hot Rods cruise past Lugs, 9-3

LANSING, Mich. - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (6-14) clubbed their way to a 9-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (8-12) on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Lugnuts surrendered a season-high 14 hits, snapping a four-game winning streak in the opener of the three-game series.
Bowling Green took a 1-0 lead in the third inning off of Lugnuts starter Tom Robson (Loss, 0-2) when center fielder Johnny Field brought in Alexander Simon with a groundout.
The Lugnuts answered in the bottom half of the inning when Dickie Joe Thon singled to score a pair of runs and put Lansing ahead 2-1.
Bowling Green third baseman Pat Blair tied the game in the fourth with an RBI single, and Juniel Querecuto brought in the go-ahead run to put the Hot Rods ahead for good.
In the fifth, Lugnuts catcher knocked his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left field off of Bowling Green starter Chris Kirsch (Win, 1-3).
Thon finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs driven in. Dawel Lugo and Justin Atkinson each knocked a pair of hits for the Lugnuts.
The Lugnuts and Hot Rods return to Cooley Law School Stadium on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. Lefty Jairo Labourt (0-0, 9.31) will start for Lansing, with Hunter Wood (0-0. 5.11) throwing for Bowling Green.
