South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - After rallying from three runs down and playing 12 innings in Wednesday's game, it would've been understandable if the South Bend Silver Hawks lacked the energy to come back from a 5-1 deficit Thursday night. However, David Narodowski's two-RBI single capped a six run eighth inning in South Bend's 7-5 victory over West Michigan at Coveleski Stadium.

Ender Inciarte, Keon Broxton, and David Nick loaded the bases with nobody out on two singles and an error against West Michigan reliever Richard Zumaya (LP, 1-1). Bobby Borchering drove home Inciarte and Broxton with a single, closing the deficit to 5-3, before Matt Davidson was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Ramon Castillo extended his team-high hitting streak to 16 games with an infield single that scored David Nick and was thrown away by pitcher Matt Little (ND), which allowed Borchering to cross home and tie the game at 5-5.

After Errol Hollinger was intentionally walked and Matt Helm flew out, Narodowski singled down the left field line to plate Davidson and Castillo, completing the rally. Yonata Ortega (SV, 17) induced a Clay Jones ground out with the tying run at second in the ninth to earn the save and set up a possible sweep.

Bradin Hagens (WP, 2-4) allowed a run in 3.0 innings of relief, but kept the Silver Hawks within range. Hagens loaded the bases in the top of the eighth but allowed only one Whitecap to score in a situation that could've blown the game open.

The Whitecaps jumped out to an early 2-0 against Diogenes Rosario (ND) in the first. Jeff Rowland singled and Wade Gaynor doubled to set up runners on second and third with one out. Rosario got Avisail Garcia to ground out, but Michael Rockett plated two with a two-out single to put West Michigan up.

West Michigan tacked on two more runs against Rosario with individual tallies in the second and fourth. Rowland came through with a two-out double to score Robert Brantly in the second, while Brantly scored on a groundout by Jamie Johnson in the fourth. Rosario departed after 5.0 innings, surrendering the four runs and eight hits while tying a season-high with seven strikeouts.

South Bend got on the board against West Michigan starter Nathan Newman (ND) on a Nick RBI single in the sixth before West Michigan extended the lead back to four with the aforementioned run in the top of the eighth.

The Silver Hawks go for the sweep of the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers) on a Fireworks Friday night at 7:30 PM. RHP Eric Smith (5-4, 3.15 ERA) throws for South Bend while West Michigan sends RHP Victor Larez (4-7, 5.14 ERA) to the bump. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com.
