EASTLAKE, Ohio - The TinCaps received solid pitching, errorless defense and just enough offense to scratch out a 2-1 win over the Lake County Captains, Thursday at Classic Park. Jason Hagerty returned to the lineup with a double.

LHP Nick Greenwood worked three scoreless innings and exited as the Padres attempt to limit his innings total for the season. RHP Hayden Beard allowed the only run in three innings. RHP Miles Mikolas delivered two scoreless innings and RHP Nick Schumacher fired a scoreless ninth.

Lake County LHP Vidal Nuno matched the TinCaps into the fifth inning, when Hagerty led off with a double and advanced to third on a fielding error. He scored on Nate Freiman's single to open the scoring. Daniel Meeley reached on an infield single and two batters later, Wande Olabisi stroked an RBI double to right-center, making it 2-0. Meeley tried to score all the way from first, but was thrown out at the plate.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lake County's Greg Folgia doubled to left-center to lead off. A sacrifice bunt advanced him to third, then Delvi Cid smacked an RBI single to cut the lead in half, 2-1. Beard struck out the next two batters to avoid further damage.

The Captains threatened in the sixth, putting runners at the corners with one out, but Beard worked out of that jam. In the ninth, Schumacher allowed a leadoff single to Chris Kersten, but induced a double play to clear the bases. The next batter grounded out to end the game.

Beard (3-3) grabbed the win; Nuno (3-3) was saddled with the loss. Schumacher collected his 18th save.

Fort Wayne improved to 7-7 in the half, 43-41 for the season. Lake County dipped to 8-6 in the second half, 39-44 for the year.

The TinCaps finish the three-game series against the Captains (Class-A Cleveland Indians) Friday at 7:00 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Jerry Sullivan (6-3) goes to the mound against Captains RHP Trey Haley (4-3).
