Boise Hawks News Release

EUGENE, Ore. - Four consecutive singles in the fifth inning provided the winning margin, and Roger Evenson retired the final six batters in a row, as the Boise Hawks evened their five-game series at two apiece with the Eugene Emeralds, knocking off the Ems, 4-3, at Civic Stadium.

Singles by Carlos Quinones and Chris Gaskin put runners at the corners with one out in the inning, with Elvin Puello extending his hitting streak to six games with an RBI single to plate Quinones, giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead. Johnny Defendis would then slap a single to left, scoring Gaskin to give Boise the two-run advantage.

Enter Michael Hyle and Evenson, who did not allow an earned run in five innings of relief. Evenson struck out Nick Hundley to end the ballgame and end the Hawks two-game losing skid.

Boise jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Gaskin RBI double, but Eugene would get an RBI double from Will Venable and an RBI single from Chase Headley in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. The Hawks would tie it up in the top of the second on a solo Mark Reed homer to right.

Gaskin went 3-for-5 for the Hawks, while Quinones, Defendis, and Davy Gregg each had two hits.
