The Portland Winterhawks (22-20-2-0) fell to the Saskatoon Blades (17-25-3-0) 3-1 Saturday at the Moda Center in front of 10,390 fans.

Saskatoon opened the scoring 24 seconds into the game on a goal from Connor Gay for a 1-0 lead. The Hawks then got on the board at the 12:01 mark of the first when Evan Weinger ripped a wrist shot top shelf to beat Blades netminder Brock Hamm and knot the game at 1-1.

The Blades registered the lone goal of the second when Logan Christensen scored at 4:38 mark of the period to make it 2-1 heading into the third.

Portland kept up the pressure in the third period, but with a minute left, Mason McCarty sealed the game with an empty net goal to give Saskatoon the 3-1 win.

The Hawks will be back in action Monday when they host the Vancouver Giants at 3 p.m. in a Daylight Classic game at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The arena's curtains will be open for that game to allow daylight into the bowl, giving the game an outdoor feel.
