Warriors Down Wheat Kings

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings 7-game home ice winning streak is over.

A second period goal by Dryden Hunt snapped a scoreless tie and the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors added three more in the third to beat the Wheat Kings 4-1 at Westman Communications Group Place.

Brayden Point, Noah Gregor and Tanner Jeannot - into an empty net - also scored for the Warriors, who pulled to within six points of the front running Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division.

Nolan Patrick scored in a losing cause of the Wheat Kings, who fired 22 shots at Moose Jaw netminder Zach Sawchenko in the third period as they did their best to draw even. Sawchenko finished the night with 46 saves while Brandon's Jordan Papirny turned aside 37 Moose Jaw shots.

The loss - Brandon's first on home ice since December 11th - coupled with Prince Albert's overtime loss in Lethbridge, leaves the Wheat Kings one point up on the second place Raiders in the Eastern Division.

Brandon is now 27-13-2-2 on the season while the Warriors improved to 23-15-5-1 as they beat the Wheat Kings for the first time in four tries this season.

The Wheat Kings will now hit the road for a 7-game road trip, beginning next weekend in Saskatchewan with games in Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Regina.

The Wheat Kings don't play at home again until Friday, February 5th when the Prince George Cougars pay their first visit to Brandon in two years.
