Boise Hawks News Release

BOISE, ID - In game one of the three-game series, Boise's pitching and timely hitting lifted them to a 2-1 victory over the Hillsboro Hops (Short Season A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks).

Jeffri Ocando dazzled in his 10th start of the season, going five innings, giving up only three hits, an earned run and struck out six Hops. Ocando tied his season high for strikeouts tonight.

Hillsboro struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Diamondbacks' first round draft pick Corbin Carroll tripled and then later scored off a wild pitch to make it 1-0 Hops.

Boise responded after going scoreless through the first seven innings of the game. In the top of the seventh inning, Ezequiel Tovar singled, stole second base but then off the steal, a wild pitch was thrown to advance Tovar to third base. Joe Aeilts knocked him in with an RBI-single to tie it up at 1-1.

After a Yorvis Torrealba triple, Tyler Plantier sent a hard-hit grounder over to left field and gave Boise the 2-1 lead. Torrealba was a home run away from the cycle.

Colton Hathcock collected his first save of his professional career to secure the 2-1 win for Boise. Initially, Hathcock walked the leadoff batter but then came back with two-straight strikeouts and a flyout to secure his first save.

Game two of the series is set for 7:05 p.m. PT from Ron Tonkin Field.
