Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winterhawks (40-20-2-3) earned a decisive 6-1 win in Everett Wednesday over the Silvertips (40-20-3-4).

The win moved the Hawks to within two points of Everett for first place in the U.S. Division, with Portland holding two games in hand. Tonight was the final regular season head-to-head meeting between the two teams.

Everett opened the scoring 3:18 into the game on a goal by Dawson Leedahl, but the Hawks got it back at 8:29 when Keoni Texeira fired a shot from the high slot past Silvertips netminder Carter Hart to make it 1-1. The Hawks then took a lead at 11:39 when Oliver Bjorkstrand scored for a 2-1 advantage Portland took into the second.

They extended the lead 4:16 into the second when defenseman Adam Henry scored off a gorgeous end-to-end rush to make it 3-1. Henry struck again at the 12:04 mark for his second of the period and a 4-1 lead, with Everett then replacing Hart in net with Austin Lotz. It was the second career two-goal game for the blueliner.

Portland got one more before the end of the period when Nic Petan scored for a 5-1 lead they took into the third.

It remained that way until the 13:44 mark of the third when Bjorkstrand fired a shot right that went past Lotz and ripped right through the net for a 6-1 advantage that stood as the final.

With two goals Bjorkstrand is now up to a league-leading 54 on the season.

Nic Petan picked up a goal and two assists to extend his point streak to seven games, a span in which he has 23 points- 22 of them assists. He's second in the league with 68 helpers on the season.

Henry, Keegan Iverson and Evan Weinger all added two points apiece in the win.

Adin Hill earned the win in net with 27 saves on 28 shots. Hart allowed four goals on 23 shots, while Lotz gave up two goals on 12 shots in relief.

The Hawks are back in action Friday when they travel to Spokane to take on the Chiefs.
