Hawks Battle the Grizzlies

The Fresno Grizzlies are the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Last season, the Grizzlies finished fourth in the Pacific South with a record of 61-83.

VS. FRESNO: The RedHawks won three of four games last season at The Brick. The RedHawks pitching staff had a 2.13 ERA, allowing only nine earned runs in the series. The RedHawks lead the all-time series 38-18.

TODAY'S GAME: This is game 112 of the season, the last of 4 meetings between Oklahoma and Fresno this season.

ROSTER MOVES: Desi Relaford joins the RedHawks today after being assigned outright by Texas. Mike Wood was recalled by Texas today.

LAST GAME: The RedHawks took the third game of their series with Fresno, winning 7-3 last night. The Hawks scored two runs in each of the first three innings to build a 6-0 lead. Eight of nine Hawk starters had at least one hit as the RedHawks racked up 13 hits in the game. Starter Edinson Volquez picked up his fourth straight win, allowing one run on two hits in six innings of work. Scott Feldman, inheriting a bases loaded situation, got the final two outs in the ninth for his first save of the season.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Chris Baker will make his sixth start of the season for the RedHawks. He lost Monday against Tacoma, allowing six runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings. Last season for Round Rock, Baker pitched one scoreless inning against the Grizzlies July 26 at The Dell Diamond. Russ Ortiz will make a rehab start for the Grizzlies. Ortiz made a rehab start against the Hawks July 29, 2005 at Tucson rehabbing a stress fracture of his right rib cage. He allowed seven runs on seven hits in three innings.

REDHAWKS ON THE ROAD: The RedHawks improved to 13-4 in their last 17 road games. The Hawks are hitting .298 with 24 homers in the last 17 road games. They have outscored their opponents 116-60 on during that time. The pitching staff has a 2.96 ERA in that stretch. The Hawks have allowed more than three earned runs in a road game only four times in the last 17 road games.

TURNING IT OVER TO THE PEN : The RedHawks bullpen hasn't allowed an earned run in six consecutive games. Derek Lee did allow two unearned runs last night. The pen has allowed only two earned runs over the last 22.2 innings with 17 strikeouts.

SPARK TUG: Tug Hulett has a 18-game road hitting streak after going 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored last night. He's hitting .342 with three homers and 16 RBIs, with at least one hit in 30 of his last 33 games. Hulett has seen his average go from .238 to .276 during that time.

VICTOR CONTINUES TO PRODUCE: Victor Diaz is hitting .354 (23-65) with five homers and 22 RBIs over his last 16 games after going 2-for-4 with a 2-run homer last night. Diaz has reached base safely in 10 of his last 11 games.

STREAKS: Nate Gold, Hulett and Diaz each bring 6-game hitting streaks into tonight's game. Kevin West has reached base safely in 19 straight road games.

LEAGUE LEADERS: Wood goes to the big leagues leading the PCL with a 3.23 ERA. Freddy Guzman leads the league with 41 stolen bases. Hulett is tied for fourth with 78 runs scored.

DOT-DOT-DOT: The RedHawks are 9-8 on Saturday this season, and they are 11-16 in the final game of series...Volquez was only the third RedHawk starter to make it through the sixth inning in the last 10 games. The Hawks are 40-19 when the starter goes six plus innings and 16-36 when a starter fails to get through the sixth...the RedHawks have at least one double in six straight games...Guzman has reached base safely in 14 of his last 16 games.
