
Cubs blast Sidewinders, take series

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Cubs sent 12 men to the plate and scored eight runs in the bottom of the third inning en route to a 12-4 win over the Sidewinders on Saturday night. The Cubs won the series three games to one.
Geovany Soto had three hits, including two run scoring hits in the third. Eric Patterson also had three hits and a RBI while Felix Pie drove in two on one hit.
Kevin Hart earned the win on the mound and did some damage at the plate. Hart (2-1) tossed 6 2/3 innings of one run baseball and had three hits and three RBI, including a two run single high off the wall in left-center to score a pair in the Cubs four run sixth.
The Sidewinders offense was held to just seven hits. They tallied only 13 hits in the final two games of the series after posting 25 in the first two.
D.J. Carrasco took the loss as he allowed eight runs on seven hits in just 2 1/3 innings. It was Carrasco's shortest start of the year.
The Sidewinders travel to Omaha tomorrow to open a four game series with the Omaha Royals. Left-hander Greg Smith (1-2, 5.48) starts for Tucson against right-hander Luke Hochevar (1-2, 7.08) for Omaha. First pitch is at 11:35 am Tucson time. The game will air LIVE on COOL 1450 beginning at 11:30.
