Omaha Lancers News Release

RALSTON, NE - In front of a sold out crowd of 3,902 fans on "Pink in the Rink Night" at Ralston Arena, presented by Methodist Health System, the Omaha Lancers defeated the Waterloo Black Hawks by a 5-0 final score on Saturday. With the win, the Lancers' sixth consecutive victory and first over the Black Hawks this season, Omaha improved to 33-9-4 overall this year and with 70 total points, leapfrogged the Hawks and vaulted into first place alone in the Western Conference and overall USHL standings.

Sensing an opportunity at 2:28 of the first period, Lancers captain Tucker Poolman opened Saturday's scoring when he turned sharply off the left half boards in his offensive zone and lasered his 12th goal of the season past the left ear of Waterloo goaltender Cal Petersen for a 1-0 Omaha advantage with Anthony Angello and Jake Henderson registering assists on the play. Then, at 14:45, Luca Frigo collected his second power-play goal in as many games when the Luserna San Giovanni, Italy native tipped home a center-point wrister from Steven Johnson to make it 2-0 Lancers with Poolman picking up the secondary assist.

Having set a tone both physically and on the scoresheet in the opening stanza, the Lancers kept up the pressure in the second period, collecting two more goals, from Jake Randolph at 5:02, assisted by Tyler Vesel and Connor Light, and Frigo's second extra-man score of the night at 16:43, set up by brilliant feeds from Vesel and Poolman, a marker that pushed the Omaha advantage to 4-0 through 40 minutes of play.

Ryan Tait poked home the third period's only goal at 17:56 thanks to assists from Gage Hough and Jimmy Schuldt, but the story Saturday was without a doubt Lancers rookie goaltender Hayden Hawkey. Thanks to a 30-save performance, Hawkey improved to 17-2-0 overall this season, collected his third-career USHL shutout and second consecutive goalless outing.

Next up for the Lancers, it's a Sunday clash with the Des Moines Buccaneers at Ralston Arena with the opening faceoff set for 5:05 pm on a "TeamMates Sunday", presented by the Harold K. Scholz Company. Full coverage of Sunday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 4:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
